Campus Ministry
Fr. Peter serves as the Director of Campus Ministry for the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. He's been a priest for five years and is a big fan of St. John Henry Newman and St. Therese. The eighth in a family of fourteen, Fr. Peter has spent pretty much his whole life in Pittsburgh. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his 36 nephews and nieces and woodworking, but not usually at the same time.
Father Reed Frey
Campus Minister
Fr. Reed is the third of four children in his family, originally from Lancaster County, PA. He completed his B.Phil. in Politics-Philosophy & Religious Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, where his thesis focused on the personalist thought of the brilliant 19th century Oratorian, Cardinal Newman. Fr. Reed enjoys exercise, being outdoors and studying the history
of philosophy. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 29, 2021.
FOCUS Missionaries
FOCUS is a Catholic collegiate outreach whose mission is to share the hope and joy of the gospel to college and university students. Trained in Church teaching, prayer, sacred Scripture, evangelization and discipleship, FOCUS missionaries encounter students in friendship where they are, inviting them into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and accompanying them as they pursue lives of virtue and excellence. Through Bible studies, outreach events, mission trips and one-on-one discipleship, missionaries inspire and build up students in the faith, sending them out to spread the good news and to live out the Great Commission: Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations (Mt. 28:19).
Partnering with chaplains and campus ministers, FOCUS missionaries go out to colleges and universities to meet students where they are: in the dorms, on the field, at the student union and in every corner of campus. Through outreach events and one-on-one conversations, students make meaningful connections with members of Christ’s body — growing in friendships, sharing life and coming together in authentic community.

Newman Club Officers
Both Pitt and CMU's campuses have Catholic student groups officially recognized by the universities. These groups, with their elected officers, work closely with the Fathers of the Oratory (the official Catholic Campus Ministers) and their respective FOCUS Missionaries to plan and organize a variety of events to welcome new students and allow returning students to grow in their friendships with one another and with Christ. We are grateful for the student officers of each club who so generously share their time and talent in the service of Christ's mission on campus. Please connect with your respective club below. Graduate students from each of the universities we serve have formed a joint Newman club group. All local university students are welcome to participate in our events. If you are from a university other than Pitt or CMU and would like to participate in any of our activities please connect with the Pitt Newman Club and contact our Campus Ministers directly to get weekly emails about upcoming events!
