In the wake of abortion we mourn the loss of an inestimable number of innocent children. Humbled by this reality, we are also compelled to unite ourselves in solidarity with the millions of women who have procured abortions and find themselves wrapped in what has been called a “forbidden grief” - often isolated in a hidden shame and remorse. We entrust with love these children and mothers and fathers alike to the Lord of Life and the Sacred Heart of Mercy.
January 15-17 members of the Secular Oratory, Eucharistic Adoration at The Pittsburgh Oratory, and the greater Pittsburgh area gathered for three days of prayer, fellowship and discussion. The three days - consisting of Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, guest homilists and speakers, and communal meals - focused on fostering a greater respect for human life, offering reparation to Our Lord for both our sins and those of our country and our world, and praying for healing for all those whose lives have been affected by abortion. On Thursday night we welcomed Fr. Ivan Chirovsky, of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Parish, as our guest homilist, and Mrs. Aimee Murphy as guest speaker. Friday, Fr. Angelus Shaughnessy celebrated Mass for us, and Ms. Emily Stimpson was our speaker for the evening. The 40 Hours event concluded Saturday morning with Mass and a breakfast, generously prepared and served by students of the Newman Center.
