At the Sunday Angelus in St. Peter's Square on December 29, 2014, Pope Francis asked the faithful to join him in praying for the upcoming Synod on the Family, which will take place in October of 2015. In response to this request the Eucharistic Adoration Society of Rome has organized an international novena, during which the prayer given to the faithful by The Holy Father will be said on the First Thursday of every month. The Pittsburgh Oratory is the official American participant in this novena. Every Thursday we have pledged to pray the novena prayer at the end of each Mass, and to dedicate our Adoration of the Holy Eucharist to intercession on behalf of the Synod. Holy cards will be provided at all First Thursday Masses in order that everyone may participate in this great work of prayer.
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph,in you we contemplate the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer. Amen. Lord Jesus Christ, Spouse of your One Bride, the Church, we beg you to pour out your grace on the Synod on the Family.
